Women In Business Spotlight: Savannah Guthrie

Savannah Guthrie: A Woman in Business

Savannah Guthrie is an inspiration to all of us at WebMarkets, as well as millions of others throughout the world. Her work ethic is matched to those names Couric, Brokaw and Walters, but that is just within her industry. To us, she is bigger. Savannah is a true inspiration of ethics, compassion and promise. Her character broadcasted on nationwide television brings good character and harmony to millions. Millions of specific people, all with minds of their own, making daring, logical, and important decisions everyday. These decisions ultimately impact the lives of others; whether it be your coworkers, daycare teachers of your children, your spouse, your most important clients, and even your church leaders. Her representation and how she behaves impacts people who make decisions, ultimately affecting your day in your home. Day in and day out.

But what is it about her? Why is she a true inspiration to others? Well, here are some examples.

Savannah Guthrie is best-known as the co-anchor of NBC's Today Show. However, Guthrie has worked in several professions, including journalism and law. She also worked as a legal analyst for NBC News.

During the infamous 2016 Presidential elections, Savannah was 7+ months pregnant. Not only was she working full time for The Today Show, but was spending late nights reporting breaking news about the election. Now yes, many women around the world work until their due date. But few have the courage to do so in front of millions of people on live television. Many at her celebrity status would mail it in, relying on their money earned in the past rather continue working long hours everyday.

It wasn't until the night of the General election when it clicked. Savannah was up past 2am eastern time reporting on the historical Trump victory. All bright eyed and 3rd trimester pregnant, Savannah held strong, reporting the details on a day that history will always remember, in the most professional, non bias way.

The next morning, as we turned on our daily Today Show, there she was. 7am and ready to roll. Reporting the news of the previous day and how it impacts the world. Now think about this. Here's a woman who is 7 months pregnant, working until 2am and showing up to work the next day at 7am. How does she do it? Because she believes. She believes she can and doesn't restrict herself to self proclaimed barriers. Savannah Guthrie is a doer, and she wants others top be doers as well.

How Did She Get There? Childhood, Education, and Early Work

Savannah Guthrie was born in Australia. Her parents moved her family back to the States during her early childhood, and she was raised in Tucson, Arizona. Guthrie graduated from University of Arizona (cum laude) in 1993 with a journalism degree. Upon graduation, Guthrie worked at a television station in Missouri. Two years later, she took a job with NBC in Tucson.

Guthrie received her law degree from Georgetown University Law Center in 2002 (magna cum laude). She received the top score on the state bar exam in Arizona. Also in 2002, she began to practice law with Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer, and Feld. Her specialization was white-collar criminal defense. She worked as a litigation associate.

Eventually, Guthrie decided to go back to television work. First, in 2004, she worked for CourtTV as a legal correspondent. At CourtTV, she covered both the Michael Jackson trial and the Martha Stewart case.

In 2007, Guthrie began working as an NBC news correspondent. This eventually led to a job as a White House correspondent in 2008. Since 2008 was an election year, Guthrie covered the 2008 presidential election.

The Today Show on NBC

Savannah Guthrie first joined the Today Show in 2001, where she worked as the chief legal correspondent and a co-host for the third hour. Savannah Guthrie went on to replace Ann Curry as the new co-anchor of the Today Show. Guthrie began working alongside Matt Lauer as co-anchor in summer of 2012.

During her tenure at the Today Show, Guthrie has interviewed a broad range of different celebrities and politicians, including Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Meryl Streep, Gabby Giffords, and Mark Zuckerberg. In terms of major news events other than the 2016 Presidential election, Savannah covered the 2013 tornado in Moore, Oklahoma and the Boston Marathon bombing. She covered both the 2012 Summer Olympics and the 2014 Winter Olympics. However, she declined to travel to the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio due to concerns about the Zika virus. Guthrie's work on the Today Show earned her a Daytime Emmy Award in 2011.

We Want to Congratulate Savannah Guthrie

Savannah has been married to Mike Feldman, a communications consultant, since 2014. They have a daughter named Vale. In December of 2016, Savannah gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, Charles.

Savannah- Your hard work and admirable attitude as a Woman in Business is a true inspiration. Thank you for illustrating to women and men alike, the ethics, morals, and values of a true business professional we here, at WebMarkets, truly admire. Thank you for not only all that you do, but how and why you do.
